The UAE considers climate change to remain one of the most pressing global challenges and therefore intends to revitalize and advance the discussions related to this issue in the Council during its presidency. Over the past years, the UAE has played a pivotal role in mobilizing global efforts and energies in order to meet the challenge of climate change and to offer solutions and initiatives that contribute to accelerating efforts to protect the environment and biodiversity.  

The UAE is preparing to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), which will be held in 2023, in a move that aspires to organize a distinguished session that contributes to the world’s adoption of an economic orientation that supports climate action, and stimulates the international community for more cooperation and acceleration of the pace Efforts to meet the challenge of climate change. The UAE launched the strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality 2050, and as part of this initiative, the UAE plans to invest 600 billion dirhams in clean and renewable energy sources by 2050.
